15th December 2024 – A first-timer competing at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Lake Taupo, New Zealand was an eye opener to age group racing. Having been a little burnt out racing Triathlons throughout the year. The World Championship mindset was to just enjoy the setting, the energy and not set myself up for any personal best.

The anxiety of expectations seems to have grown as I have aged. I’m not quite sure how I have watered this monster of a plant to feel that kind of stress, but knew I had a good run all year and I wanted this competition holiday to come with as little negative feelings and complaining as possible in my head. Why pay for something and not want to be there? Strange but it happens to the best of us.

Turns out that I’m in love with New Zealand all over again, though it seemed to be somewhat a little more expensive than when. first went, inflation is a thing.

Here are some of my best moments as ‘The Ageing Athlete’ at the 70.3 Ironman World Championship. A privilege not just to be there, but the ability to be able to move and do what I love in my 40’s.
