Since April this year , the Changi Karting Circuit has opened its doors, with knowledge of a short term lease, but with the understanding of the possibility of a further extension.

THE FIGHT IS NEVER OVER

With the decision by the Singapore Sports Council recently to no longer extend this lease , due to the Singapore Air show  slated to be in February 2014,  the piece of land will be returned November 10th. Let’s just hope that the hard work put in by those who put the track together, is not left on the back burner and we can look forward to something bigger and better with their support.

With much disappointment at the decision, from everyone who has been involved, to those who have supported the use of the 1.1km track of International specifications and as an  industry looking for only  positive forward growth, the fight is not over. A big plus, with a larger track is safety, which is always a concern in singapore which I personally believe , that is sometimes stunted by a lack of understanding, but with the right , controlled environment, jaywalking will likely be a more riskier choice of thrills.

USAGE

The opening of the track with  97.6% usage, it only proves to show, how much Singapore needs an international track, of a proper size, that will allow karters new and old, who aspire to improve their own personal standings and on a larger scale of dreams, to put singapore on the world map of karting. With lower costs of  karting on a walk in basis for beginners, the CKC has allowed the masses to pick up karting also as a hobby. With more than 5000 karters passing through the CKC gates, it has been an amazing achievement with such an increase in knowledge, participation and interest in what go karting is really all about.

COMMUNITY

With a pure passion and love for Motorsport, those who put it together in a short period of time, really have nothing to prove with statistics and support form the greater community of what this track means to everyone, young and old, beginner or professional. This comes to the point of community participation.

What was so brilliant and encouraging about the Changi Karting Circuit; it brought people together. If you had the chance to drive the track, sit in the stands or in the pits , there were so many different people, brought together from different walks of life. From kids of 7 years old all the way to those adults in their 60’sand 70’s, from CEO’s of companies to mum’s , kids from the skate park to the disadvantaged and of course the students involved in the Karting Academy, it brought the international community together of Singaporeans and Expats, not forgetting those passing through on holidays.

Karting knows no discrimination, no gender, education, age nor race.  I myself, once being a completely blank beginner with no experience, I could go up to anyone on track and talk to them about karting. Once we had our helmets on , we were all one.  We all shared the same experience, the same turns, braking points, even frustrations at finding that extra tenth of a second.

Giving the opportunity to students part of the Ministry Of Education  in Singapore, and more than 100 disadvantaged students, the Singapore Karting Academy, has let the younger generation be exposed to what many others around the world would call the norm in sports.

SINGAPORE KARTING CHAMPIONSHIP (SKC)

The SKC has been operated by Havelock speedway with much success since 2011, with a record number of 76 karters taking part this season. Singaporeans and expats alike made their way down to have a family fun-filled day, 360 view of the track , with the last SKC to be held on the 2nd and the 3rd November. With the public, free for all to view the race and take a peek into the set-up tents and photographers given a chance to get up and personal, the Changi Karting Circuit is once again a community event and a weekend alternative for those looking to get out into the open. With live commentators, to let you know what is going on  and where, the SKC has produced promising talents from the likes of Thaddeus Lee, Amin Noorzilan, Glenn Chiam just to name a few, some who have gone on to appear in European international competitions, gaining the experience they needed to progress.
